Microsoft Teams vs. Zoom: which one is right for my business?

In a time when everyone is more physically distant than ever before, technology has made it easy to stay connected. Video conferencing systems have become one of the most valuable assets to organisations across the world. From virtual meetings, to presentations, these video platforms allow us to continue our meaningful face-to-face interactions regardless of location.

What are my options?

Today two video platforms are taking centre stage: Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Each of these relatively new platforms have seen rapid development over the past couple of years, with ever growing features and fans.

What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is a communication platform included in the 365 packages. With a high level of integration with other products within the Microsoft Suite. Teams encompasses Microsoft’s workstream collaboration, whilst offering a unified communication platform, allowing you to combine your meetings, calls, chats, and file sharing in one shared workplace.

What is Zoom?

Zoom is a leader in the video communications industry, with a cloud platform for video, audio, conferencing, collaboration, chat and even webinars. Whilst an external platform to your usual online workspace, Zoom offers a range of application integration.

So, which one’s for me?

Both Teams and Zoom enable online meetings, chats, calls, screen, and file sharing, alongside webinar functionality. However, the clear difference between the two is the ‘One Stop Shop’ offered by Microsoft, with a smooth integration between its video platform and the general Microsoft offering.

Full of functionality, once a user has had the chance to immerse themselves into Teams, the platform really begins to excel. No more complicated navigation around numerous pieces of software, whether you need to share a file, jump on a call, or even host your very own webinar. It’s this full package, that in our eyes, makes Microsoft Teams come out on top.
